The Prosci ADKAR® Model is a goal-oriented simple yet effective model to help individuals and organizations navigate Change successfully.

ADKAR® sits at the center of the Prosci Methodology graphic with the impacted individual at the center of it to emphasize that organizational change requires individual change. 
During transformational times, employees could feel disconnected as they fail to recognize the importance of their involvement. This is how skilled leadership can powerfully impact the process by ensuring individuals are emotionally engaged and any potential resistance is addressed.

The power in the ADKAR® model lies in the fact that it is outcome-oriented aiming to limit resistance to organizational change. The main elements to focus on to be successful in your organization’s transformation are:

ADKAR® is a Change Management model that guides individuals through the change process. It focuses on the 5 key Elements: Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement. 
Each element represents a milestone that individuals must achieve for successful change.

Key Components Of The ADKAR Model

The Prosci ADKAR® Model

A. Awareness:

  • Statement: Awareness of the need for change.

  • Objective: Ensure that individuals are aware of the need for change.

  • Importance: Without awareness, individuals are unlikely to support or engage with the change initiative.

D. Desire: 

  • Statement: Desire to Participate and support the change.

  • Objective: Foster a desire to participate an d support the change.

  • Importance: Desire is crucial for gaining buy-in and reducing resistance.

K. Knowledge:

  • Statement: Knowledge on how to change.

  • Objective: Provide individuals with the knowledge on how to change.

  • Importance: Knowledge equips individuals with the skills and information needed to implement the change.

A. Ability:

  • Statement: Ability to implement the required skills and behaviours needed to apply the change.

  • Objective: Ensure that individuals have the ability to implement new skills and behaviors.

  • Importance: Ability ensures that individuals can effectively perform in the new environment.

R. Reinforcement:

  • Statement: Reinforcement to be able to sustain the change.

  • Objective: Reinforce the change to sustain it over time.

  • Importance: Reinforcement prevents regression and ensures long-term success.
